The Nestucca drift

I've been a bit conflicted about posting this. While it was a great day on the river in some ways, it held much promise but didn't deliver. But that's life I figure - coulda been better but wasn't? - life in a nutshell! So accept it, enjoy it, even embrace it for what it is and celebrate the beauty and pleasure it brings you.

The weather was great, not cold, no wind. The water was great and there were fish around. None for us though.

PDX train trip

Gotta love the old Salem train station. Just a great landmark.

Amtrak is a nice relaxing way to travel too. 1hr 23min to Portand. Scenic, low-stress.

This week, over!

Glad this week is over! The cold was NOT fun, Anna's car needs Head Gaskets (uggg) and I was waay too busy @ work to maintain sanity.

Here's a couple pics of the stream next to work. Almost 1/2 frozen!

Favorite Italy photo

I've been meaning to put these up. I just loved the clear water, the colors and the feeling this evokes for me. One of the reasons I woulda if I coulda stayed in Italy.

This is from Manarola in Cinque Terre Italy.

Pamelia, Hunts & Hanks Lakes

Wow. Really, wow. No words can really say how beautiful these places are. I hope a few photos interspersed with words do it justice.

We left ~5 on Fri Aug 7 and made it to the campsite ~8. Just enough time to setup the tents and have a bite to eat. It's only 2.3 miles from the trailhead to Pamelia. Easy peasy.

Saturday we left Pamelia ~11am and made it to Hanks Lake ~1pm. The hike is moderate, not easy, not too, too hard. It's ~3 miles but well worth the effort. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. On the way there we crossed several streams (!!!)

And we got a couple of shots of Pamelia, open high meadows and Mt Jefferson
On the way there we saw a bobcat about 150 yds away. Crossing one of the rock slides. Cool.

Once there we scouted around, sat and stared in awe! We saw toads w/ orange bellies and spots *all over*. Wildflowers everywhere! What an amazing sights the sub-alpine zone provides!

I'd go back anytime! Here's a link to a few more pics at Picasa...
