On Sept 1st we hiked into Patjens. A series of 4 ponds/lakes. The water was a bit low, but its late in the season.
This is a good place to find out more
Rio was happy to go and the kids had a great time. We found a bright green frog and a baby (~4 inch long) garter snake. We also found some leeches (by turning over rocks not the 'traditional' way, thank goodness!)
About a 5 mile loop from Big Lake (near Hoodoo Ski) and close to Mt Washington. There was a forest fire burning closeby.

now, there is a great, fairly level and easy hike! a couple of times i
led Chemeketan hikes there. a small group of friends from the church
would hike it the weekend before, just scouting it out, seeing how long
it might take, condition of the trail, etc. then i could answer
questions, presence of snow, availability of rest stops, good place to
sit and admire and eat our lunch. i loved it, it was so level and some
wild life, depending on time of year. did you see any deer? i never
fished it, did you? how long did it take you? i always asked that it
be labeled a dawdler's hike to be sure others would not make it a
race... thanks for the revisit. the last weekend in July we tried to
make it to see the mariposa lilies, kitten's ears. there were better
places to do an overnight, too early in the summer, the mosquitos were
deadly!
